Are you distracted by your phone? Walking distracted could soon be illegal

Get the help you deserve

Are you watching where you are walking? Or are you distracted by your phone? It’s time to put your phone away and be engaged with your surroundings because pedestrians walking whilst distracted by smartphones may soon be vulnerable to hefty fines imposed by council representatives.

The Pedestrian Council of Australia Chairman, Harold Scruby, is an advocate for on the spot fines given the large increase in pedestrian death tolls this year.

This potential new regime will include distributing $200 fines to anyone seen to be distracted and putting other persons at risk.

It is important that people realise that walking while distracted could result in fines in the near future. Accident Legal recommend that pedestrians do not use any electrical devices while crossing a road. This also applies to using earphone devices to ensure that hearing is not impaired so that any possible accident can be avoided.

Accident Legal are experts in all road injury claims. Our goal is to maximise your compensation.
